The General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union offers paid five-month traineeships in Brussels. Trainees work in the Council's departments and see how EU member states make decisions together.

This programme runs every year; dates usually move little from one round to the next.

Who can apply

EU citizens with at least a bachelor's degree by the closing date, C1 English or French plus very good knowledge of another EU language, and no more than six weeks of earlier work or traineeship at an EU institution.

What is covered

Trainees receive a monthly grant, a meal allowance and two days of leave per month. There are about 110 places a year.

How to apply

Wait for the call on the Council's traineeships page and fill in the online application. Selection takes several months, after which chosen candidates receive an offer.
